Adversity is the problems you face and the struggles you go through to be who you are. In the book The Princess Bride, Rob Reiner presents the idea that an individual must go through adversity to fully experience the essence of life. This is implying that one must go through the ups and downs of life in order to discover what it has to offer. One example is Truman Burbank from "The Truman Show."
