Beowulf is an epic poem about supernatural and heroic characters. An epic poem is a long narrative poem that celebrates a hero’s deeds. Beowulf has a lot of twists and turns that make it entertainment. The poem is full of alliteration, action, and supernatural events. Alliteration is shown all throughout the poem. An alliteration is the repetition of initial constant sound. They make poems and stories more catchy to the readers. In Beowulf an example of an alliteration is, “A powerful monster, living in the darkness, growled in pain”(page 42, lines 1-2), which is describing Grendel and his life. Another example of an alliteration from Beowulf is, “Smoothly, swiftly, into place with a poet’s skull singing his new song aloud while she shaped it, and the old songs as well…”(page 54, lines 394-396). Actions are described as courageous, superhuman deeds in the epic poem. Beowulf takes on some huge actions throughout the poem. He concours Grendel, which is one of the monstrous characters that is described at the beginning of the poem. For instance, “He twisted in pain, and the bleeding sinews deep in his shoulder snapped, muscle and bone split and broke.”(page 53, lines 337-340) is one of the strongest actions he took on within the story. Additionally, Grendel’s mother came back for revenge against Beowulf and after he had taken the victory once again, Beowulf swam underwater to the shore with what was left of the sword and Grendel’s head. Only supernatural beings can take on these kind of actions and Beowulf certainly achieved
