If you think an innocent bird that sings for you should stay alive and thrive, so should black people. Do you believe a mockingbird is beautiful and innocent? The mockingbird in TKAM represents innocent black people. It is said it is a sin to kill a mockingbird because they are innocent birds that do nothing but make beautiful music for humans.
In chapter 10 Scout explains how it is a sin to kill a mockingbird, “remember it is a sin to kill a mockingbird. That was the only time i ever heard atticus say it was a sin to do something, and i asked Mrs. Maudie about it. Mockingbirds are defenseless, like boo radley. Scout in this quote shows that they understand the lifely in black people, and it is not okay to destroy innocence.
