Emma Avalos Ms. Gorton English III 19 January 2023 The Outcome Was As Expected Most books or movies ever made have a purpose to teach something. There is always that one kid who screws up and now his school blew up. They show how the kid thinks he knows more than his parents and doesn’t listen. The story results in the kid having to fix his mistake to save his school. Most people have this sense of adventure and willingness in them as seen in Chris McCandless in the book Into The Wild. He had a rough childhood, so he decided to drop everything, and go about on his own. He was overconfident, unprepared, and died. I believe that character traits such as arrogance and ignorance contribute to negative outcomes because it shows overconfidence, how underprepared a person can be, and it might result in death. …show more content…

A quote from the story To Build a Fire, says, “It did not lead him to consider his weaknesses as a creature affected by temperature. Nor did he think about man’s general weakness, able to live only within narrow limits of heat and cold. From there, it did not lead him to thoughts of heaven and the meaning of a man’s life.” (London, 65). This quote tells me that the person in this story felt regret for not being more prepared and overconfident enough to get the things he needed. Another quote, from chapter one of Into the Wild, says “Gallien offered to drive Alex all the way to Anchorage, buy him some decent gear, and then drive him back to wherever he wanted to go. “No, thanks anyway, “ Alex replied, “I’ll be fine with what I’ve got.” (Krakauer, 6). This quote shows me that again, Alex, a guy who went off on his own, is showing overconfidence. He believes he doesn’t need help or want help.
