Imagine someone tells you they suffer from depression, ADHD, or another medicalized condition. How would this change your perception of this person? If one of my friends came to me and said Paul, I something important to tell you and reveled that they had let’s say HIV. I would not consider them to be deviant, but I would have feelings of sorrow and empathy for that person because having HIV can be an arduous battle that can eventual lead to death. The definition of deviant describes an action or behavior that violated social norms. My friend confiding me that he or she has contracted a horrible life long disease, I feel that my role would be one of helping and not to be judgmental.
