Shyanna Alspaugh Mrs. Smith English 11 13 May 2015 Great Gatsby An island outside of New York were two sides, East and West Egg . In the island, were characters that shared different morals and did things a lot different from one another. These characters were known as Nick, Daisy, Gatsby, and Tom. In this story different themes were displayed some of these themes include the following lies and betrayal, social class and money, and love and marriage. In the following quote is an example in one of the ways that lying and betrayal was interpreted. “Somebody told me they thought he killed a man” (Fitzgerald, Pg.48). Daisy in the story shows a sign of betrayal when she leaves Gatsby hanging by a limb to take her fall of murder. She decided to leave with Tom so that Daisy was still his perfect golden girl. The following quote shows an example how marriage and love was involved in the story. “You did it, Tom," she said accusingly. "I know you didn't mean to, but you did do it. That's what I get for marrying a brute of a man, a great, big, hulking physical specimen of a– " (Fitzgerald, Pg.16) .Gatsby, Tom, and Wilson all shared some way of a common interest with the love of their life. Gatsby and Tom shared a common interest in Daisy. Daisy is married and loves Tom but Tom loves another women named Myrtle. Daisy notices that Tom has another women in his life and ignores it all. Gatsby is in love with Daisy. Daisy and Gatsby still love each other and trys to find a way for Daisy to leave Tom. Tom notices towards the end of the story that Daisy is leaving and so is Myrtle. Tom lashes out at his loved ones to win Daisy back by frightening her about Gatsby's past.
