A hero can be made in many ways. In “The Hobbit”, Bilbo Baggins becomes a hero throughout the story. He travels through the zero to hero journey. He starts as a small town hermit who transforms himself into a life saver. Bilbo encounters many struggles on the adventure, but he gets himself through them as well as the eleven dwarves he is traveling with. What makes a hero? A hero by definition is a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. This definition, however, can be interpreted into what an individual believes to be heroic. After reading the definition, I was certain that Bilbo had become a hero over the course of his adventure. The start of Bilbo’s journey was at zero. He did not show any heroic qualities, and he was nothing other than an “average Joe”. He lived alone in a hobbit hole at the foot of The Hill. Mirkwood was very dangerous and they were warned multiple times to never go off the path. Of course, the crew fell into a trap and was lured off the path. They soon were lost and disoriented. As they sat in the dark, Bilbo started to feel string wrap around him. It was a huge spider, and there were many more. The spider started attacking Bilbo and the dwarves. Bilbo soon went into action trying to save them and avoid being trapped himself. He put on his invisibility ring and threw rocks at the spiders to get rid of them. This tactic worked and the dwarves were safe. This event was the third step for Bilbo to become a hero.
