Censorship On April 14, 2010, South Park released an episode of their show that celebrated 200 episodes. This episode celebrated the several people that the show had offended in the past 199 episodes. In the episode, all of the people South Park offended teamed up to sue the town South Park. The team was led by Tom Cruise. The only way that they would drop the lawsuit is if the Town of South Park brought Muhammad for Tom Cruise to meet. At the end of the episode, the prophet was placed inside a teddy bear suit in order to not cause offense. However, it was revealed that Santa Claus was actually inside the suit. Comedy Central censored out any image of Mohammed and beeped out a full conversation with a main character, Jesus Christ, and Mohammed about full speech. This is an example of televised censorship. Along with that there are several different types of censorship in the world both good and bad. One type of censorship is when a government attempts to conceal, fake, distort, or falsify information that its citizens receive by suppressing or crowding out news that the public might receive through news outlets. This is called Political Censorship. When the government covers things up, for example, according to legaldictionary.net, in North Korea, only 4% of people have access to internet and it’s government controlled. This is when educational sources, especially Social Studies books, where the writers of the material leave things out or switch things around to change what students learn. For example, in American history books, The U.S is made to look like the hero, but in reality the U.S takes what they want when they want it. Another example would be the teaching of evolution in schools. This was a big deal because evolution went against the teachings that God created everything. There were several examples of schools were teachers were getting in trouble for teaching evolution. For example, in the Scopes Trial a substitute teacher was in trouble for teaching evolution in Tennessee where the Butler Act id in effect. This law says that teachers are not allowed to teach human evolution in any state-funded school. All in all, there are several different types of censorship. Whether they are good or bad is all point of view. For the people doing the censoring it may be good but to the people being censored it prevents them from staying
