Emily Hontiveros Ms. Albuquerque English I - Honors 13 October 2014 The Chocolate War: Chapters 11-20 Response Journals Something I dislike in the novel is the amount of sport terminology used. I find it confusing to refer to football “language” throughout scenes where significant events occur. “He had expected Carter to blitz and instead the big guard had pulled back and skirted the line, annihilating Jerry from behind (page 76).
1)In the beginning of the chapter, the narrator couldn 't help feeling scared and curious. What happens when you open a book? Fahrenheit 451 is a futuristic novel that discusses what society would be like in the 21 century. Books were banned because of the knowledge they gave people, the people who were not the brightest were jealous and angry with the people who were intelligent. The head leaders and the people in charge decided to burn the books with fire and get rid of all knowledge. The symbolic themes include books being the source of knowledge, how fire represents destruction, and the outcasts enable the rebirth a nation.
Connector-The Chrysalids The first connection I can make is a text to world connection. The point I would like to relate is how norms and deviations are separated in the book and that can also occur in real life. It is not to the extreme of banning them from the country like how deviations are in Waknuk, but there are several forms of discrimination in the real world. David describes the discrimination of deviations in Waknuk throughout the whole book.
1. With so many bad things going on and the news no being positive, Jews didn’t want to believe any of this in hopes that something good would happen. I know when I heard the news that my grandma had passed away I refused to believe it, in hopes that it wasn’t true. 2. "... our eyes opened, but too late” refers to how people were starting to realize everything Moishe the Beadle was saying was true.
Quickwrite #1- AQWF In this part of the book, Paul and his friends are out on the front re-wiring the front line with new barbed and communication wires when they hear the shrill cries of injured and badly wounded horses. Additionally, during the bombing, one of their soldiers becomes badly wounded in his leg and will most likely die or never be able to walk again. There is a similarity between this young soldier and the injured horses, made apparent by the comparison the author makes between the two. The young soldier, while human, is helpless after getting injured and will likely die if he is not helped soon.

Ruby Gravesen ELA Helbeing February 21, 20223 Literary Analysis Of Mice and Men The short novel Of Mice and Men written by John Steinbeck incorporates many themes within its pages. The short novel is set during the Great Depression and tells a tale of the threat and danger of believing in one's dreams, primarily the American Dream.
In the book Of Mice And Men by John Steinbeck there's a lot of irony involved in the story. Most of this irony affects a lot the way you see the story. Some examples of irony in the story is: many of the people felt in the house they stay at felt bad for candy's dog got killed, and when Lennie got shoot only Slim and George felt bad. Its ironic sin it comparing a dog's death and a human death. One irony that I find funny is that Lennie's last name is Small but the story teaches us that he is taller and stronger than everybody else in the book.
Around one quarter of deaths on Australia’s roads involve drink-driving. Over a decade, this amounts to over 3,500 deaths, as well as many thousands of serious injuries. Even at low concentrations such as 0.05, alcohol increases the time drivers take to make decisions and reduces their capacity for precise motor movements, which escalates the risk of injury and death. Alcohol also reduces inhibition and increases confidence and risk-taking, which can cause people to make inaccurate judgements about how much alcohol they have consumed and continue to drink drive. Examination has shown that estimating the number of “standard drinks” consumed is difficult, as young adults frequently make inaccurate judgements when determining if they are sober
The book Of Mice and Men is set in the Salinas Valley during the Great Depression. At that time, America’s economy had an economic and social breakdown. However, there are a lot of people that are chasing for their American dream, but most of them are failing. The main characters in John Steinbeck’s book are described as those dreamers, and Steinbeck uses those vivid examples to insinuate this former society. In regards to the issue of either keeping the book on the high school reading list or deleting it as required reading, I believe students should read it.
