Dramatic irony is essential to creating an engaging story. Act IV of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is a point where dramatic irony is most evident when Juliet is deprived of Romeo while she still loves him but is forced to marry Paris. An example of this would be Juliet responding Nurse's goodnight wish from Nurse, telling her to rest away her problems, characterized by her as minor. Juliet responds with, “Good-bye! God only knows when we’ll meet again” (Shakespeare 4.3.15). The Nurse and Juliet’s Mother think that Juliet is saying they will not see her until the morning again. She is really saying that she is planning on faking her death and this is the last time they will see in such a state. All of which is a part of her plan to escape
