American Ideal: Equality Malcolm X once said “Nobody can give you freedom. Nobody can give you equality or justice or anything. If you're a man, you take it”. Equality is having the same rights as someone or thing does, being treated fairly. The dictionary stated that equality is “ the state or quality of being equal; correspondence in quantity, degree, value, rank, or ability”. Some examples of equality would be Dr. Martin Luther King Jr gave his famous I have a dream speech on August 28,1963. Also there was a law passed to abolish slavery by Abraham Lincoln. In today’s time, the government pass the same sex marriage law to give equality to same sex marriage as they did to different sex marriage. In today’s society think about what if equality was not a law and consider what if there was no one to fight for equality in America. If there was no such thing as equality then no race would be equal to another. Also everyone would be treated different and be discriminated by a certain group of race. Not having equality would change the country because there would be no way of life because a certain group would think something is right while another group would disagree with the group's beliefs. This would change history because the leaders would have not say or take action for what they believe in.
