On page 206-214, when Chin Kee and Danny were fighting they revealed at the end of the fight was Monkey King and Jin. This made the reader question through the whole book who is who? When Jin turned into Danny this made me wonder if Chin Kee was his actual cousin. But them When the reader saw when Chin Kee head came off his head and it was actually the Monkey King. The Monkey king said to Jin that he was watching over him as his conscience and to see his son Wei Chin.
External conflict is a type conflict that happens between a character and another outside force such as another human or nature. During the movie, The Big Fish, the main external conflict is between Will and Edward. The first time the conflict becomes a large problem for Will is at his wedding. Edward says to Will “Come on, Will. Everyone likes that story.”
In Gene Luen Yang's graphic novel “American Born Chinese”, the Monkey King parallels Jin life by many common interests they share like conforming to society to gain the admiration of others. They both struggle throughout the novel with many conflicts such as fitting in, insecurities, and being withdrawn from others. For the Monkey King and Jin it is critical for them to fit into society in order to gain approval from other who are important to them. They both very much so struggle with this throughout the novel. For the Monkey King there were many occasions of this happening, an example of this would be when he goes to a dinner party and is rejected due to who he was, a monkey.
