January 30, 1933 was the day that President Hindenburg appointed Adolf Hitler Chancellor of Germany, which was the beginning of the Holocaust (Google History). In Source A, a young Jewish girl, Anne Frank, wrote in her diary that the Gestapo was taking away Jewish friends and acquaintances and sending them away to concentration camps. She listened to the English radio to later find out that they were being killed and gassed. Source B reveals, that in the steps to genocide, people classified as different are prohibited rights and personal honor. They are referred to as “sub-human, while the Nazis referred to Jews as vermin” (Source B).
During the Holocaust, six million Jews were sent to their deaths. Nevertheless, in the Holocaust literature, one can find the glimpse of joy. In 1933, in Germany, Adolf Hitler and his Nazi party created a German Empire & Jews were no place in Hitler’s vision. Love & Laughter were two of the main things that made Jews and other people forget the time happening in the Holocaust, including nature. Almost 2,700,000 Jews were sent to extermination camps such as, Treblinka and Chelmno, where they were lately killed.
Prologue The Holocaust was a tragedy that happened in the 1940’s . It took around 11 million lives, 6 million of them being Jews. The victims of the Holocaust went through hell. They were starved, beat, and separated from their families.
When there is no light, only darkness, humans still prevail. The Holocaust, a time were six million Jews were killed. Children were ripped from parents arms, and sent off to ghettos, work camps, death camps, or concentration camps. These Jews needed something to keep them going, something, when they saw it, would make them done make them not give up. Love, the beauty of nature, and laughter helped the human spirit triumph through the time camps, or concentration camps.
"Concentration camps, that's what you call, uh, a camp what actually is annihilation...they annihilate people, actually. " This quote by Abraham Lewent sums up the story of the Holocaust and what an egregious time it was. The genocide of over six million people during World War II was the Holocaust. It all started with a man named Adolf Hitler and his rise to power and the German people who were desperate to believe anything they were told.
There is no doubt about the fact that the Holocaust was a horrible time, but just how bad was life in the case of Jewish men, women, and even children. Life as they knew it changed forever during World War II. They were treated as extremely low class citizens. Just being alive was torture to them as the Nazis made their lives and every aspect of them into a living nightmare. Almost every situation relates back to the basics of life food, money, and a job.
The Holocaust was one of the most terrifying events that had scared the history of the Jewish people and will forever leave a mark in history as well. During the Holocaust millions of Jewish people were sent to concentration camps or killing centers to be exterminated. At the camps Jews were beaten, called names, and were treated badly as well. Also, in the camps and killing centers the SS guards would use a stick, their hand, or their foot to brutally beat the Jews. The names the Germans usually called the Jews were fools, devils, and much more.
The Holocaust was a period of time when Adolf Hitler spread his ideology. He formed a group called the Nazis which were Germans. They hated Jewish people and had the idea that Jewish people ought to die. 6 million Jewish people died during this period of time. The Holocaust started in 1933 and ended in 1945.
This book took place during World War II Poland. In the book it does not really mention any dates that we could tie in with this time. There are several mentions however of signs of war for instance, “There were air raid sirens at night but for a few weeks nothing happened.”(pg. 26) This was before they were moved to the ghettos of Warsaw.
Back in the 1930s-1940s, Nazi’s ruled tremendous sections of Europe. They somehow managed to manipulate themselves to believe they are superior beings. They took whatever they wanted and treated people however they wanted. They even believed they had the ability to rape whoever they wanted, which is abysmal! Hitler believed militant power created authority.
Survivors of the Holocaust After the war against the Nazis, there were very few survivors left. For the survivors returning to life to when it was before the war was basically impossible. They tried returning home but that was dangerous also, after the war, anti-Jewish riots broke out in a lot of polish cites. Although the survivors were able to build new homes in their adopted countries. The Jewish communities had no longer existed in much part of Europe anymore.
History is a subjective matter. There are several narrations and interpretations for every historical incident ever happened. Human beings are not immune to their own evil, which makes them vulnerable and painfully exposed to their self-made tragedies. Merriam Webster defines 'historiography' as "the writing of history based on the critical examination of sources, the selection of particulars from the authentic materials, and the synthesis of particulars into a narrative that will stand the test of critical methods." The significance of historiography lies in its ability to examine the evolution of thoughts and feelings concerned with a particular historical event.
In the past, one of the most heated discussion in the field of the Nazi Germany history was the debate between the intentionalism and functionalism schools. Both sides of this debate tried to arguer the question of what led to the Holocaust. Was it Hitler himself who was the main driving force towards the Holocaust, or are their other variables that need to be considered before placing most of the blame on Hitler ? Scholars on the functionalist side believe that all of the blame for the Holocaust and Nazism can not be laid at the feet of Hitler’s hatred of the Jews, and some even argue that lower German officials started killing Jewish and other people by their own volition, although Hitler ended up approving of their actions. The Holocaust was a horrific tragedy which started in January of 1933 and ended in May of 1945, the Holocaust was the mass murder of millions of people. The word was derived from the Greek word that meant Sacrifice to the Gods (Steele 7), also called the Shoan which is the Hebrew word for catastrophe (Steele 7). So many countries took place in this 12-year genocide, including, “Germany, Italy, Japan, Romania, Hungary, and Bulgaria, which were also known as the Axis Powers” (Steele 34). But, although there were all those countries they were all part of one larger group called the Nazis, were the ones who were killing all the different denominations of people. (Bachrach 58).
The statement “The Holocaust was the most evil crime ever committed” is true. From the years of 1940 - 1945 “the Germans and their collaborators had murdered six million European jews” (www.ushmm.org). Under the dictionary definition for evil it reads “profoundly immoral and malevolent” both words which describe the holocaust. The extremes the people who committed the atrocities during WWII as to complete Hitler’s Final solution went completely away from the principals of being right. The acts they did on those people were vile and violated each and every innocent person 's human right, making it extremely evil.
