Life can be a very dangerous journey! One stormy day, ye are on a ship facing all of the miseries of the sea during a severe storm. This is one example of how authors can use Old English to draw a visual picture for the reader; helping to understand what is occurring in the story. In the first passage, Defore used a very rough storm to help the main character realize how he needed his parents opinion before he goes off to do something he will regret. Also in the first passage, the author uses words such a ye, Humber, and endeavor. These words get a visual image in the reader's head while also helping understand the story.
