In the story Of Mice and Men written by John Steinbeck, it mainly takes place on a ranch where two migrant workers, Lennie and George travel around to find work. Throughout the story George helps Lennie throughout the whole story because Lennie is mentally handicapped and has trouble thinking. Lennie cannot be by himself and needs help with simple tasks. George has a large amount of responsibility for Lennie as he always has to care for him. There were events throughout the story where Lennie does some bad things that gets him and George in trouble and at risk of getting kicked out of the ranch. The story includes lots of foreshadowing and the potential risk of some characters. The story shows lots of foreshadowing as shown above. Also added how some characters are in some deep water. One instance of Steinbeck’s foreshadowing is when a wannabee, failed actress without a name called Curley’s wife came into play. She is called Curley’s wife because Steinbeck wanted to show that she is useless and is lonely and is named after her husband. To show that it is like property to Curly rather than a wife. She and Lennie meet for the first time after both are alone in the barn. George always told Lennie to never talk to her because she is trouble and will create trouble. We know Lennie does not mean to do bad things but is just unlucky and gets in trouble alot. We saw how many times Lennie got in trouble making us readers assume that something was going to happen to poor Lennie. In this case it does. In the beginning of the story George gets mad at Lennie saying hoe his life would be so much easier without him and wish Lennie was never with him. Saying hoe Lennie is the one who makes all the trouble and George has so much responsibility. This gave readers some intel on how George truly felt. George did apologize but we knew that George was going to lose his patience and kill Lennie. Another example was when Carlesson shot Candy’s dog for being s old. Candy felt so much regret and wished he never had a stranger do it and if there was any last person to kill the old dog, it would be Candy. Candy explains this to George and the same thing happens. George feels he has to kill Lennie himself because they were as close just like Candy and his dog. George did not want the other men shooting Lennie just like what happened to Candy's dog. But the biggest example was when George was telling Lennie what to do in case he ever gets in trouble. George told Lennie to go down in the brush and hide in case of trouble.
