In the play Romeo and Juliet there have been many instances of good intentions that have bad outcomes. Many characters in the play have tried to do the right thing or help others but only bad things resulted from this. For example, Benvolio showed good intentions when he tried to break up the fight at the beginning of the play but only made things worse. Lord Capulet had good intentions of marrying Juliet to Paris in order to stop her mourning. Romeo shows good intentions when he tries to break up the fight between Tybalt and Mercutio but only ends up getting Mercutio killed. Also, Paris shows good intentions when he went to Juliet's grave to pay his respects and give her flowers but was then killed by Romeo. In order to cheer her up, Lord Capulet decided to “make a desperate tender” of his “child’s love” (3.4.13-14). He decided that Juliet “shall be married” to Juliet “o’ Thursday” (3.4.23-24). When Juliet learns about this she refuses but her father says he will “drag” her if he has to (3.5.160). Juliet still does not want to marry Paris and told Friar Lawrance that she would commit suicide if Friar cannot help her. Friar then tells her to fake her death and gives her a “vial” that makes it look like she is dead (4.1.95). Lord Capulet tried to make his daughter happy by marrying her to Paris but instead she refused. He wanted her to be happy and believed that this will stop her from grieving. Even though he wanted to make her happy, Juliet does not like the idea and decided to fake her death instead of marrying him. Although Lord Capulet intended to make Juliet happy, she decided to make her entire family believe that she was dead and made them grieve her
