Gothic In Frankenstein

“Frankenstein” has been known by many as a dark and gloomy story. The reason it has this dark tone is because this was this novel was written during the Romantic period. This period in time took place from the year 1750-1870, the spirit of this era was to go against rules and laws, industrialization, and to follow nature. A Gothic novel is a piece of literature that is fictional, and is described as a setting filled with horror and mystery.

Throughout the first two paragraphs of chapter ten, Victor, who is on a snowy mountain, seems to be in many emotional states of mind for what he has done. For example, when Victor was in the valley and relaxed he had used many adjectives like peace,tranquility,and subdued. Later on, when Victor had awoken from his slumber, there had appeared a storm. The storm had been described as dark, awful, and it was also described as having multiple clouds, as well as how hard the rain was pouring down. Since the weather and setting are projecting Victor’s feelings, since the setting is what is making Victor feel depressed or calm.

Throughout both paragraphs in chapter ten, there is emotional change, the setting projects Victor’s state of mind, and many adjectives are being described of the setting.
