In life, people always encounter troubles. Sometimes it take a few days to fight through it, but sometimes it takes a few years. But at the end, no matter how big or small the trouble is, hard work always will lead to good rewards. Homer’s epic poem, The Odyssey, perfectly demonstrated this idea. In the epic poem, the main character Odysseus demonstrated hard work and dedication to get to his family, but all the troubles and stresses that he have gone through make him appreciates his family even more when he reunites with them. Homer mentioned in the epic poem, “There is no greater fame for a man than that which he wins with his footwork or the skills of his hands.” This passage have perfectly described the journey of Odysseus. After Odysseus’s men have all died, he have to do everything by himself. When Penelope have finally set Odysseus free, she told him, “Come, put your skill to use. Take up tools, fell some tall trees for timber, and build yourself a sturdy raft, strong enough to withstand the ocean waves…” (Homer 50). Afterwards, Odysseus walked into the woods himself to get wood and built himself a raft. By Odysseus building the raft him self, it illustrates how quickly he wants to get home and reunite with his family.
