In the novel And Then There Were None, there are multiple themes. Justice being one of many, showing that there are many flaws in its system. What I mean by this is that the main characters of And Then There Were None got little to no punishment for their crimes. Some even got rewarded. Here’s how justice and injustice is portrayed in the novel.
To begin, in the novel And Then There Were None, it is clear that there is a lot of injustice. Injustice can be found in Anthony Marston and Philip Lombard’s cases. These characters both show no sympathy for their crimes. For example, Anthony Marston, who admitted to killing 2 kids by hitting them while speeding, has no remorse for his actions. Mr. Blore and Justice Wargrave are great examples of this. The fact that they were shamed and blamed by the society but not by the jury is a problem. This shows that the jury under-reacted their cases. For example, in chapter 4, Mr. Blore said that he was only doing his job by, what we later learn, sending an innocent man to jail. For this he got a promotion instead of punishment. Later in the novel he explains that he was in trouble with a gang and sending the man to jail was the way out. It didn’t take long for him to explain this. I'm sure that with some pressure from the jury and with more investigation for his arrest, he would’ve been found guilty. This shows that the justice system has priorities and isn’t always fair. I think that when the public strongly believes something in a case, the jury should investigate even deeper and spend more time to be sure. Mr. Blore, like the others blamed for ‘‘doing their jobs’’, are great examples of a flaw in the justice
