Night Auschwitz, the grave of millions. Sly, driven, and brutal; the Germans who planned and executed Auschwitz, and many other death camps in relation to Hitler's rules. Looking back at history the reader understands that the Jewish people were not being naive. Innocence is a word commonly referencing a person or thing that is pure and harmless. In Elie Wiesel’s story, “Night,” Moshe the Beadle, tries warning his home the German’s are there to harm them.
From the small town of Sighet in Transylvania to the huge concentration camps of Auschwitz. Elie Wiesel, the author and victim of the book Night, the horrifying experience of the Holocaust. Wiesel is a 15 year old Jewish boy who was captured by the Germans or “Nazis” during WWII. He went through an overwhelming amount of trauma, like when he got separated from his mother and sisters and watching his father suffer an unbearable amount of pain that eventually killed him. The fact is, power is a tool that can corrupt itself and others, it can ruin people’s lives and it can do that without people even realizing it.
Cruelty is something that no human being deserves especially in awful inhumane ways. In Elie Wiesel's memoir Night his writing shows what great evil humans are capable of during the holocaust. In situations of power humans are capable of limitless cruelty. The camp workers brutally killed, stripped them of all their identities and tortured the Jews. At the concentration camp the innocent Jews were killed for invalid reasons and treated like cattle.
“The Hungarian police burst into every Jewish home in town: a Jew was henceforth forbidden to own gold, jewelry, or any valuables”(p10 & 11).This memoir is discussing about the dehumanization of Jews by a man named Elie Wiesel who has survived the holocaust. The process of getting rid of Jews began in 1944 starting by grabbing any valuables Jews have and forcing them to wear stars on them. When Jews don’t have any valuables and making them wear the stars , the Jews can’t buy anything showing that Jews are weak and poor and they are just people that should not be in this world. “The yellow star? While Elie and his father were at the train, after the acts of the Jews they realized that the fear makes people evil. We can see that the fear made Jews evil in the train because they were trying to kill each other in the train to survive, and they were also throwing the death bodies out of the train. “Throw out all the dead! All corpses outside!” (Wiesel 94).
Can one avoid savagery after an extremely traumatizing experience? Elie Wiesel can not, after being in 3 of the Germans concentration camps. Elie ultimately changes in regards to others, and in his commitment to his father. Elie changes in regards to others.

During the death march, the Nazis threatened to the remaining Jews that if one of them slowed down or stop, they will shoot them right there. After going through many selections and death of their fellow friends, the Jews forgot about their emotions toward friends or loved one. This is an example of dehumanization therefore Jews started attacking or leaving each other behind. To them it was all about survival. When the Rabbi was getting tired during the march, his son took that chance as a way to leave his father behind because he no longer wanted to carry the dead weight, in this case his father.
Victim of Isis are experiencing death, suffering, and with no hope in sight. But the horrific events was not happening in the middle east during present times, but during world war II in Germany. In the book Night, Elie Wiesel explains his experiences during the holocaust. Elie Wiesel wrote this book so he can inform people who weren’t there or didn’t know what happened to prevent this from happening again. Elie Wiesel assert this by show loss of faith, brutality and suffering Elie Wiesel, for a period of time of his life, experienced many things witnessing many deaths and malnourishment for years.
In which millions of Jews were innocently killed and persecuted because of their religion. As a student who is familiar with the years of the holocaust that will forever live in infamy, Wiesel’s memoir has undoubtedly changed my perspective. Throughout the text, I have been emotionally touched by the topics of dehumanization, the young life of Elie Wiesel, and gained a better understanding of the Holocaust. With how dehumanization was portrayed through words, pondering my mind the most.
Courage is a word that used often or not, has it’s own meaning. Having courage to do the impossible is experienced in our everyday lives without even thinking, such as, taking out the trash, going to school, taking a step onto a unknown street, it happens to us all and can even have a dramatic impact on yourself, your future, and your life. In the book Night courage is experienced every single day of torture. Prisoners, such as Elie, face and fight for their own survival not knowing that their best weapon possessed in their hands was courage. Courage was a weapon, a very powerful weapon that could change your fate in an instant.
Imagine knowing your fate ahead of time. That single moment would be stuck in your head, replayed every second to prevent it. This would obstruct your feeling of morals, making you only focus on your own survival. Nothing would get in your way of trying to survive. During the Holocaust, many people were faced with this moment when they stepped in a concentration camp.
“From the depths of the mirror, a corpse gazed back at me,” Wiesel 109. This quote relates to the thesis by proving if something traumatic happens it's very emotionally draining as well as physically draining. The novel Night, by Elie Wiesel tells us how inhumanity affects people by being forever traumatized and losing their own humanity. Eternal traumatization is caused by inhumanity. For instance,”The look in his eyes, as they stared into mine has never left me,” Wiesel 109.
Injustice “Never shall I forget that night, the first night in camp, which has turned my life into one long night, seven times cursed and seven times sealed.... Never shall I forget those moments which murdered my God and my soul and turned my dreams to dust. Never shall I forget these things, even if I am condemned to live as long as God Himself. Never. (Wiesel)”
As much as Jew’s wanted to speak for themselves, or even save others, this wasn’t possible due to their fear of winning them causing silence. In the Elie Wiesel’s memoir, Night, shows how Wiesel’s experience was during this harsh time in his life as a teenager. During this experience, Wiesel discovers how others, also including him, decided to remain silent as a result of their fear, causing some choices to be avoided and not made. To sum up, Wiesel’s experience portrays that fear always wins and causes others to be silent. Throughout this experience, Wiesel meets another person who is going through the same situation as him.
