People tend to let emotions take over if they become too intense. Jealousy is a very common emotion, people can easily become jealous and let it take over. If this emotion becomes too strong it changes people making them insane with jealousy. An intense romantic jealousy will drive someone into changing who they are and preventing them from controlling their actions. Jealousy can easily change one’s perception of others. Once jealousy is planted in someone anything suggested to them about their partner could be true. Jealousy is a very strong emotion and can easily drive someone insane. In Othello once jealousy overtakes Othello it is all he can think of. His jealousy drives him insane making him irrational and impulsive. Although Desdemona is innocent of unfaithfulness Othello says “Presently. Therefore confess thee freely of thy sin, For to deny each article with oath Cannot remove nor choke the strong conception That I do groan withal. Thou art to die.”(Shakespeare 239). He ends up becoming so obsessed with his jealousy that he kills his wife, Desdemona. The anger and passion that Othello was feeling became overwhelming and he killed his wife in order to deal with what he was feeling. He says that ever if she says that she is innocent he will still kill her, he has become extremely irrational and nothing can change his mind because all he is able to think about is his jealousy which ultimately drove him to do something awful that he ended up regretting. In The Hunchback of Notre Dame Frollo goes through the same thing. He becomes jealous that Esmeralda is not his and want her to be with him and will do anything to get her. Ultimately he ends up threatening to burn Esmeralda at the stake if she does not go with him, He became obsessed and would think of nothing but her so he decided to capture her and kill her if she would not be with him.
