The people of times were at a standstill as there wasn’t anything that can cause people to grow and nothing out there to strive for. The people suffering from the Great Depression were too poor to buy goods and no goods to buy. In addition, people couldn’t have dreams or as stated in the novel nothing “outside the boundaries of Maycomb County” as they were barely trying to live in the present with the crippling economy. Families like the Cunninghams represented the entire farmer population affected by the crash as they suffered severely and their way of life showed the impact. These impacts were evident by the condition of the Walter Cunningham Jr. such as the “absence of shoes ”(pg) that led to hookworms from exposure to the ground.
Throughout history, people have been inventing things to make their lives easier. That drive has produced huge changes in the American life several times over. In the 1700’s, life in America was very difficult. Transportation infrastructure was lacking, which pushed the delivery of goods to be almost exclusively down rivers. Military technology was roughly unchanged since America began, leaving the country open to attack from other nations.
This time period is usually associated with dreadful working conditions for the working class and unimaginable unemployment rates. The light that Griffin shines on the subject contradicts what many believe to be a terrible period for all those involved. We see a glimpse of this
The late 19th century consisted of rigid work hours for children, the growth of strikes, and the use of yellow journalism. It was a challenging time for anyone below the upper class to live in. This is demonstrated throughout Newsies, a Broadway Musical displaying the challenges from this time period. Child labor, a major part of the movie, was the way of life and consisted of young children doing hard work as a vital part of the nation’s economy and income of families of the time. Another part of the movie, strikes, were the people’s way of refusing to work as a result of not getting their desires.
During the 1800 many individuals shaped what we call today the American society and culture. Many settlers’ didn’t know how impactful this would affect in today’s society. Some of the greatest example that changed America was Roger Williams, Alexander Hamilton, Nathanael Greene, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, John Rolfe, William Penn, Benjamin Franklin, and least but not last Thomas Paine. They became well recognized during the 1800 due to their major judgments such as religious issues, politically, economically, and founding new lands in America. In addition, they also left a legacy for many founded colonies in the United States.
In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, many events take place in the small town would absolutely not happen in the current day. Many things have changed since the early 1900’s and they make the world of Maycomb County very different from our own. Some things that were commonplace back then are now accepted as morally wrong and other things have just changed over the years. Scout, Jem, and Dill are very adventurous and they spend lots of time walking all around town by themselves.
The Roaring Twenties, characterized as a progressive era toward changes and advances, it was a start for freedom and independence for women. Women gained political power by gaining the right to vote. They changed their traditional way to be, way to act and dress to gain respect, and the liberty of independence. Society had different ways of ideals and the ways women were willing to do were disapproved of, and it was wrong for lots of different people, including women from the older generation. In the 1920’s women went through a lot of changes that made them a free spirit, changes that made them what they are now and having the liberty of being independent.
Tough times never last. However, tough people do. ”-unknown Sometimes people don’t tend to realize the hardships of life back in the 1930’s, more specifically The Great Depression. Going without a steady job, use of transportation, and everyday electricity, was quite the struggle for people back then.
What was life like during the early 1930’s and late 1940’s? Well, this was a time period when the Germans went against what the Jews thought, so the Germans made an effort to kill all of the Jew. 19 year old Felicia Fuksman was taken away from her family in 1939 when the Nazi’s attacked her hometown of Lodz, Poland. From that point on Felicia’s life was flipped upside down and around. Felicia went through many things before, during, and after the war.
The 1920s carried much change in society. Some of these changes were more rights for women, jazz music, and prohibition. The people of the 1920s were disillusioned by society lacking in idealism and vision, sense of personal alienation, and Americans were obsessed with materialism and outmoded moral values (The Roaring Twenties).Cultural changes were strongly influenced by the destruction of World War I ending 1918. America needed to recover and with it youth rebelled against the norms of the older generations.
Today our social environment is way different than in the South in the 1930 's. As you know the Jim Crow laws no longer exist as well as segregation. But that doesn 't mean people are not racist toward the color of your skin. I mean if the those laws still exist wouldn 't be able to go to north. The mentality of some people would different too. Like in the 1930’s were was a devastating drought for a long period of time which a great affect on overall the Great Depression.
The 1920's was an era of excess namely people like Tom and Daisy or the old money team but it also gave rise for lots of new money to come up like Gatsby but it wasn't good for everybody in the era like Mr.Wilson and everybody in the valley of ashes who could barely sustain themselves. At the end of the book when everything kind of unraveled with Myrtle getting disassembled and Gatsby being shot with basically their illusions being shown for what they really are or maybe even the great depression coming and showing
Change means to the act or instance of making or becoming different. In life people make a lot of changes. For example in america racist people were around white people didn't like black people and black people didn't like white people but now everything has changed for the better. Now they get along.
Many people come from vast variety of cultures that consists of different ideas and beliefs. In today’s culture we tend to live in a fast paced, growing environment. Sexism has been very controversial topic for decades and gender roles have been changed drastically throughout the past decades. People in America in the 1930’s were very conservative and had strict rules and ideas that had to be followed. The moment a male or a female did anything out of their gender’s role; it was misunderstood and looked upon as a sin.
Life in America in the 1900’s proved to be difficult for the sick, injured, and special people. If you had a common cold you likely would not survive too long, for the reason that, it would turn worse,if you broke your foot, there wasn 't much that could be done to heal it. Today in America doctors will assist you right away by putting a cast or boot over your foot, also, if you have a common cold, there is a wide variety of cold and cough medicines to relieve your cold in a week 's span. The reason for all these significant changes from 1900 to 2015 is technology, it played the greatest role on the evolvement of healthcare.
