One example of a hero was Beowulf, he was generous, strong, loyal, brave, and honorable till the end. So, as Sir Gawain shared many of these qualities, it is concluded that the ones they do share, are the qualities that a hero must possess. A hero could be many things, however he has some specific qualities. First comes bravery, because a hero must not be cowardly. Second is loyalty, heros must never stab partners in the back, or abandon them when things are difficult.
Later she encounters more troubles but her faith, and willingness keeps her going until the very end. Ruth’s life was not easy but she managed to outgrow each obstacle, and those obstacles are what made her
Ruth tells James about her past although she avoided and ran away from it for many years. She passed on her actions and reactions to her children, especially James, as she formed a family. James learning about his mother's past made him realize that he resembles Ruth in many ways. They both grieved on their own, but how they grieved was similar. Whether it was drugs or a bike ride, they both had their own way to run.
To start off with, one characteristic of a hero is tenacity. In the story A Man Nina Cassian states, “he set himself to do everything with twice as much enthusiasm”. In this statement the author means he is inspired to work twice as hard and to do everything the best he can. Another example from the story A soldier home from losing his leg in Afghanistan is when Tristan Segers says, “I was truly cared for the rehabilitation was rigorous and I pushed it, building back my muscles and learning to use my prosthetic leg.” In this statement, Tristan Segers mean it was difficult for him to get use to the leg and to gain the muscle back.
Despite her difficulties, Ruth is a strong and resilient character who is determined to make the best of her situation. One of the ways in which Ruth represents the hardships of women in the 1950s is through her struggle to balance her familial responsibilities with her own personal aspirations. Ruth is torn between her desire to support her husband's dream of opening a liquor store and her own dream of having a larger home for her family. She is also dealing with an unexpected pregnancy, which adds to the complexity of her situation.
Mary warren does not show heroism in the crucible because she was not brave enough. In the crucible the girls and Abby where mocking Mary, and Mary could not take it anymore so she blames John Proctor of being with the devil. “I’ll not hang with you! I love god, I love god!” (Miller 118).
Tragic Heroism in The Crucible It is better to die for what you believe in rather than to lie to save your life. This is one of the largest themes in Arthur Miller’s novel The Crucible. The character of John Proctor specifically wrestles with these issues in the second half of the book, after he has been accused of witchcraft and will be sentenced to death. Although it can be argued that the character of John Proctor is a sinner and an adulterer because of his relationship with Abigail, thus he is not a hero, he is in fact a tragic hero because this relationship eventually led to his downfall. The piece of this is that Proctor acknowledges he is not a good man, but he is eventually able to find enough goodness in himself to sacrifice himself
Every past and modern culture over the course of history, has its hero’s. A hero is a person or figure that others look up to and use as forms of protection. Many cherish the hero’s, they make up who we are today. The Anglo-Saxon hero, Beowulf, and the postmodern hero/hero’s, the soldiers, both show the traits of bravery, selflessness, and loyalty. To have the trait of bravery you have to have lots of confidence in yourself and have courage.

Hero: A person, typically a man, who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities; however, heroism is not synonymous with perfection. Man can be a hero in spite of having some flaws. This is apparent in The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, a story about the Salem Witch Trials in which Abigail Williams accuses dozens of innocent people of witchcraft. Despite being flawed, John Proctor, Reverend Hale, and Elizabeth Proctor can demonstrate their heroism in The Crucible. John Proctor is shown to be both a hero and a flawed man in regards to his lechery.
Looking back on the myths a hero did not have it easy. They faced a lot of tough challenges and had to sacrifice many things to gain their status. Also look at one Hero that is highly idolized and used to day, the American solider. Little kids dream of being them and do pretend battles while lacking to see the true meaning behind them. That heroic meaning is them risking their lives, that they walk away from their families knowing they might not come back.

The Iliad also spotlights the individual qualities of a greek hero or non-hero. Numerous characters in the Iliad demonstrated exceptional qualities of a greek person that was valued such as bravery and helpfulness and that was disproved of like selfishness. One trait that is highly appreciated by the greeks
Napoleon Hill once said, “The starting point of all achievement is desire” (Rivera, 2013). In life, individuals strive to be successful; however, how does one measure their success over their lifetime. I know people believe success is measured by all of the accomplishments one has achieved in their lifetime.
