Ladies and gentleman of the jury. It has come to my attention that my client, Malcolm, in on trial for treason against the kingdom. Malcolm abandoned the throne only because he feared his own life was at risk. And since the death of his father Duncan and Banquo he realized it was the right choice to flee to England to lay low and avoid the conflict that was going on back at the kingdom. The thought of staying made him question what it would be like with the murderers still out there and if he would be the next one to die. So he made the decision to abandon the throne and go to England. While the death of King Duncan come to a shock to everybody, Macbeth purposely tried to frame Malcolm and Donalbain so that they would be arrested and Macbeth would get access to the throne as the new king. This leads him to raise an army,and go fight Macbeth. Malcolm may have committed treason and abandoned the throne in a time of need, many people may view this as treason, and yes it was, but, this does not make him a bad person. He chose life over death at the expense that he would have to leave the throne so that he could be safe. This is treason against the throne because he fled to England but, if you were Malcolm and knew whatever he knew at the time would you have stayed. Malcolm showed courage returning to Scotland even though he could be potentially killed at any time with the intentions to retake what was formerly supposed to be his. Malcolm may have done something wrong, but in the end he paid for his mistake of leaving the throne by taking it back and becoming king of Scotland. This shows that Malcolm made some bad decisions but in the end, made a decision that would ultimately change the fate of Scotland. So in the end, the people who knew Malcolm and had died helped him establish a role in liberating Scotland from the oppression of
