The way I interpret John Lewis's "Never be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble." quote means that people should not be afraid to speak up and take action when they witness injustice in their lives. Even if it means breaking the law, as long as it's for a good cause. "Good trouble" refers to actions that may be seen as disruptive or controversial, taken to bring about positive change and progress in society. The concept of "good trouble" has been a powerful force in many social justice movements throughout history. A famous example of "good trouble" in American history was the Montgomery Bus Boycott led by MLK Jr. He and other civil rights leaders urged Black residents to refuse to ride the buses to protest against racial segregation on public transit. Defunding the police is a movement that seeks to reallocate police budgets and resources towards social services, mental health services, and community programs. I believe that defunding the police and reallocating those funds would be an effective way to address police brutality and make communities safer. While defunding the police is one way to approach police brutality, I feel that an even more effective approach is reforming the whole system. In Camden, New Jersey, they're often usedas a model for police reform. In 2012, the city was facing high crime rates and its police department was seen as corrupt and ineffective. In response, the city completely dissolved its police department and created a new county-wide police force. The police reform in Camden is an example of how innovative and community-driven approaches to policing can lead to safer communities and more effective crime
