In order for one to construct a personal philosophy, they must consider the four nursing metaparadigms: person, nursing, environment, and health. Depending on what concepts and processes they are influenced by, the focus concept of person will be affected differently. In 1976, Sister Callista Roy developed the Adaptation Model of Nursing, a prominent nursing theory. Nursing theories frame, explain or define the provision of nursing care. Roy's model sees the individual as a set of interrelated systems (biological, psychological and social). The individual strives to maintain a balance between these systems and the outside world, but there is no absolute level of balance. Individuals are trying to live within a changing environment in which the individual need to cope with it.

By starting off the speech with “ We have been persuaded,”(line 1) she is including herself in the fight which builds common ground between her and her troops. By including herself in the fight, she inspires nationalism, though the emotional argument she presents throughout the speech. With the repetition of “My loving people” and “ My faithful and loving people,” which is inspiring the faithful to possess more faith. She maintains an inspirational tone throughout her speech by appealing to the troop’s emotion and nationalism.

There are four concepts in the metaparadigm. The first one talks about the nursing. Nursing is precisely the way Nightingales puts it, relieving pain and suffering which restore patient 's health by managing the environment. In my nursing practice, the patient always comes first. The patient care comes first in every decision.
However, she was able to link the person’s health with the environment through nursing so she was able to interrelate all four concepts into one circumstance (Potter & Perry, 2013). The primary focus of the first concept, nursing, is that the nurse is to give the patient the best possible conditions to thrive in by controlling the factors that affect the health and healing and taking “charge of somebody’s health” (Nightingale, 1860 p. 1). The person in the environmental model was never really defined by Nightingale, but is multidimensional and simply the patient receiving the care. The person is impacted by the environment which leads me into the third concept of environment.

Orem affirms the theory of nursing systems defines exactly how the patient 's self-care essentials will be resolved or met by the patient or nurse (Self Care Deficit Theory, 2014). Orem classifies three classifications of nursing systems to encounter the self-care conditions of the patient. They are categorized as wholly compensatory system, partly compensatory system, and supportive-educative system (Self Care Deficit Theory, 2014). Nursing systems are a “sequence and structures of measured applied engagements of nurses to protect any disease processes, detect any abnormalities and to bring that patient back to equilibrium (Self Care Deficit Theory, 2014). A good example of this theory would be the nursing process.
