The hero Odysseus of the city Ithaca, from the Greek epic, The Odyssey, is indeed a hero. He is selfless, brave, loyal, and courageous. This man suffered much through his years away from home, and after leaving the city of Troy, the only thing Odysseus wishes for is to return to his homeland of Ithaca so he can see his family. He does a few unheroic things, but he understands that what he does is wrong, and gets his deserved punishment. Odysseus endures the hardship that gods, creatures, and other people cause him, just to return home, and with his skills and determination, he accomplishes his goal.
Odysseus is a hero because he is a bold and clever person, who uses these skills to do noble things. Odysseus was a brave soldier who fought in the Trojan War, helping the Greeks into the city of Troy, allowing them to win the war, showing that he is brilliant and brave. Also in The Odyssey, Odysseus keeps his group in order and saves his men multiple times, while they are trying to return home to Ithaca. When he is stranded on Calypso’s island for eight years, he longs to return home to his wife and son in Ithaca and goes through many struggles to get back to them, never giving up, proving that he is loyal to them and is determined to return to them. Also in the Odyssey, Odysseus returns to his family and kills all the suitors who are attempting to marry Odysseus’s wife and force his son out of the house, and hangs the servants who supported the suitors. Even during the killing, he spares the musician Phemius and a friend of Telemachus, Medon, even further proving that he cares for and is willing to risk his life for his family, much like with his men and fellow soldiers at
