Perfection is a perception. What some people call perfect for others it can be horrible, ugly and dirty. What one person may consider perfect could be full of flaws, yet that perception of perfection is what sets expectations. Everyone wants to be perfect, with perfect lives. Everyone wants to have a little of perfection in their lives. In the 1920s perfection was also known as the American Dream. The American dream is incredibly flawed and it encourages people to go to extremes to achieve wealth. In Scott Fitzgerald's novel The Great Gatsby the main character, Jay Gatsby, goes as far as making up a fake identity to show wealth, only to fit into the standards to the American dream. Like every other situation in life, there are positive and negative sides of the American dream. First of all, The Great Gatsby reflects the negative side of the American dream because it shows the vainness of the upper class when Daisy accepts Gatsby back into her life after seeing his wealth. Gatsby and Daisy have a long history. They have not seen each other in 5 years and Gatsby would go to the extremes to restore his relationship with her. He creates a new identity and does all he can to stand out in a crowd with the hopes of gaining her attention and 'accidentally' bumping into her. Gatsby manages to convince Nick Carraway through their mutual friend Joran Baker to arrange Gatsby's and Daisy's reunion. After their meeting Gatsby took Daisy to see his house, his sole goal, to impress her with the house's massive luxuriousness. Gatsby gives Daisy a tour of the house and Nick states, "With enchanting murmurs Daisy
