Prejudice of The Mockingbird

Prejudice is a preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience. This is the common definition found on Google. Prejudice is a common occurrence in our everyday lives. We are constantly judging first and thinking second without even questioning it. Prejudice is one of the main ideas of the book To Kill A Mockingbird. There are many different types of prejudice are illustrated by the situation of Mrs. Dubose, Tom Robinson, and Boo Radley.

Mrs. Dubose was a good example of someone who judged first constantly. She was a cranky old lady who had a morphine addiction,and who spent most of her day either in bed or in her wheelchair. A prime example of her prejudice is a conversation between her …show more content…

He is a young black man in the community. In the story To Kill a Mockingbird, he is on trial for being accused of raping a young white woman. In this story he is frequently called the N word on many separate occasions. The community they lived in did not believe in interracial relationships and people who had them where frowned upon. Atticus gives a great view of that opinion. "She was white, and she tempted a Negro. She did something that in our society is unspeakable: she kissed a black man. Not an old Uncle, but a strong young Negro man. No code mattered to her before she broke it, but it came crashing down on her afterwards." (Lee,204) That right there explain who most people believed it to be wrong to do thing with a black man. Most people in the room believe Tom is guilty even before the trial begins. "There's something in our world that makes men lose their heads—they couldn't be fair if they tried. In our courts, when it's a white man's word against a black man's, the white man always wins. They're ugly, but those are the facts of life.” (Lee,208) Tom never stood a chance of winning the trial because many believed he was guilty before it even
