Ratify the New Constitution
After the American colonies declared their independence, they adopted a constitution. It was called the Articles of confederation. The federal government did not make the Articles very powerful, and was failing. The people were in desperate need of a new constitution. The new constitution was made, and there were two sides; The people who wanted to ratify the new constitution, and others wanted to reject the new constitution. Brutus was a group of founding fathers writing under a fake name. Brutus’s main idea was they wanted to reject the new constitution, but he had no quotes to prove why they should do so. This quote is trash because it tries to explain how to fix a mistake in the new constitution, but never gives them a solution. Instead of giving a solution, Brutus just stated that giving the constitution the power to tax is not a good thing, but he fixed it by giving them the power to tax. Furthermore, while Brutus is writing nonsense, the other group of founding fathers that go by the fake name of Publius, are making real points. In the text, it states, “For example, it requires the federal government to raise money by asking the states for it. Consequently, the federal government had no money” (Publius). Publius is expressing the fact that it is important the federal government has the power to tax, otherwise the government runs out of money. Also, Brutus explains his thoughts on the 3 branches of government, he states that, “The constitution gives the executive branch too much power. The President is made commander of a standing army… The president will surely use this power to build a huge and expensive army” (Brutus). Brutus makes a good point on how the executive branch could have too much power, but Publius has the solution. Furthermore, Publius states, “In addition, the
