Reinvention has shaped American history in many ways, for example it allowed voyagers to find the Americas. Also reinvention helped spread the diversity of the world in many ways not just human race wise but as other animals and crops to. Some reinventions were the magnetic compasses, navigational systems allowing sailors to know their location based off of reference to the sun and stars. Reinvention with ships started the columbian exchange around the early 1490’s with nations that already existed. Ships were rebuilt to be stronger and bigger with canons. When the ships were rebuilt it meant they could take longer voyages, so sailors such as Christopher Columbus would bring crops back to Europe such as corn, a variety of beans as well as potatoes. In the beginning Jamestown,Virginia was a place settlers came to but ended up starving,the situation became so extreme the Virginia Company described it as: “one hungry man killed...and ate his wife (Shi and Tindall).” However, when it was reinvented Virginia changed to flourished new colony, where tobacco was discovered and was used in sales. The Virginia company decided that they would sell land to those who had money and would sell more to those who brought servants. So Jamestown was transformed into a tobacco growing region where people started to own their business and grow to be wealthy planters. Not just the Virginia colony became a wealthy but others too, South Carolina had rice, both South and North Carolina had yellow pine trees that could be used to make tar, along with the other states who had their own abundances. With these resources the colonies that were later to become the United States profited a lot and shows how the colonies slowly proved that they could someday stand alone with just the help of the
