Sales promotion are short-term promotional activities firms use in addition to advertising, public relations, and personal selling in order to sell a product. (Tanner, & Raymond, 2010, p. 237). There are several types of sales promotion tools used to target consumers and other organizations. The sales promotion tools used to target customers include sampling, coupons, point-of-purchase displays, premiums, contests, loyalty programs, and rebates.
Three sales promotion tools used in my country to target customers are sampling, coupons and loyalty programs. Sampling is where a small amount of a product is given to consumers to try for free. These provide immediate price reduction from an item, and the amount of the coupon is reimbursed to the retailer by the manufacturer. (Tanner, & Raymond, 2010, p. 244). In my country, coupons are usually found in newspapers and even in magazines. These coupons can be cut out and used at the supermarkets to mainly get some money off. Other occasions these coupons can allow you to get free products from magazines by mailing back the coupons to the firms. When this is done, the firm sends the free product to the consumer. Although some countries may not have all the infrastructures for the different sale promotion methods, I believe there is adequate infrastructure required for the existence of sales promotion. For example, in every country paper can be found. Therefore, every business can utilize coupons. Additionally, another important infrastructure for sales promotion in every country is buildings. Once there is a building, it can be used for training sales representatives to market the products to consumers well. This can also be used for sampling and point-of-purchase displays which would, in turn, encourage sales. (Tanner, & Raymond, 2010, p. 244). Finding a common popular place, like the city, where many consumers congregate is another infrastructure that exists in every country to facilitate sales promotion tools such as trade shows. Although it may be difficult for some countries to have all the infrastructure for sales promotions, it is possible for them to have enough to engage in sales
