Experience of Self-Pity. Elderlies also experience self-pity due to unavoidable stressful situations in life such as loneliness, loss of loved ones, disability, physical deterioration, absence or longing for children and financial distress. The following are the strategies which may be delivered among elderlies who are experiencing self-pity: Recognize the feeling of self-pity and its source to facilitate understanding, acceptance and appropriate intervention of concern. Helping elderlies develop awareness to their feeling of self-pity and its source is the beginning of the healing process as it gives way to get in touch to their authentic selves. Conroy (2006) stated that self-pity is an instinctive reaction or response to suffering or distressful events. Through the acknowledgement of the feeling and assessment of their thoughts and situations which caused it, they can be assisted in having better recognition and understanding of their experience which can lead to acceptance and resolution. A connection between elderlies and diverse stakeholders such as the local government, church and school can be developed to create opportunities for elderly involvement. Through this interdependent connection, they can suppress negative thoughts and refocus their attention on more positive thoughts and images. In addition, meaningful social engagement can be established, reducing instances of social isolation and loneliness and the quality of life of elderlies can be improved which can lead to enhancement of their overall well-being. This can be supported by Ni (2015) who stated that elderlies can be motivated when feeling of usefulness is encouraged through the provision of small tasks or opportunities.
