Static 1 Experiment Static Electricity Duncan Scanlon Physical Science Mrs. Ley December 2, 2014 Static Electricity static 2 Abstract Static electricity is a cool little thing. It can mess up small things like decorations, magnetic holders, and humans physical appearance like bad hair. many times one could be sliding down the slide at a playground and come out with frizzed up hair the can’t be fixed, that would be static electricity making it stay up. This is a process in which ions with the same charges would repel each other. To test the strengths of the charges, in this experiment, four different types …show more content…
If different materials are rubbed on a balloon then the forces will differ from substance to substance. II. REVIEW OF LITERATURE Static electricity is caused when the positive and negative charges of something are separated. Two things are in contact electrons move from one object to another which leaves more positive charge than there was on one material than the other, and an equal negative charge on the other side. We find static electricity everywhere we go on the playground, at school, at home. Have you ever slid down the slide as a kid and had your hair frizzed up? That is an example of static electricity. Static electricity has different strengths at different distances from the different objects you are testing. The strengths depending on what surface you use to rub against the balloon if its either nylon, fleece, or rayon. Static electricity is a neat phenomenon, because it could evolve into a way to harness this energy, it could lead to much more energy to power a Static
