Around 1865 segregation was created and based on the color or your skin you had a different social class to everyone else. July 2, 1964 is when all segregation laws and rules were put in place, but yet though some people don’t judge you based on skin color, they can judge you based on gender, the way you identify yourself and the things you do. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, it was made in the years when segregation was still legal and based on the events that happened in the book, some of those events sometimes happen to this day like people being treated differently just because of the color of their skin, people being stereotyped, and people getting violent with you based on how you present yourself. Another example of the book is when Tom Robinson said he felt sorry for a white lady and everyone was in disbelief. This also shows that everyone views people that are white as a person higher than a person of color. Which happens now, sometimes when it comes to what a person can do and sometimes say. To add on to the book it also shows how people are stereotyped, which also happens sometimes now. The book shows an example of this when Aunt Alexandra always budding heads with Scout because she is “mud-splashed” and “covered with sand” and not the stereotypical gentle lady. This shows the reader that the men are supposed to be the ones that are more dirty and rough and the women are the ones who need to be the ones that are more clean and careful. This also happens in todays time because everyone has to fit a stereotype or you’re going to be seen as weird or odd. Another example is when Tom Robinson said he felt sorry for Mayella was the only reason he kept helping her without her paying, though she had children and a man there to keep her company and be the ones that can help
