The Tragic Death The play The Tragedy of Julius Caesar is full of strange events that lead up to the climax of the story. Some of the events that occur are changes in weather when something important is going to happen. Other events include a lion walking the streets of Rome, a man with a burning hand, the night bird seen in the morning and a soothsayer that tells Caesar to "Beware the Ides of March". Julius Caesar never believed in the omens and superstitions that occurred in the play, but little did he know that they would lead up to his death. The first strange events that occurred are the man running through the streets with a burning hand, the lion walking in front of the Capitol and the night bird awake in the morning. The strange thing about the man in the street with the burning hand was that his hand was on fire but was not actually burning through his skin which is not something that the Roman people see often. The day Cassius and his conspirators talked about their plan to murder Caesar the ground shook with thunder and lots of rain came down. This should have been a sign for Caesar that something bad was going to happen to him and that he needed to be more careful. This type of weather was not something the people saw in Rome on a daily basis. Casca, the first conspirator to stab Caesar, thought that the weather was a bad omen for things to come. Each omen or superstition had a different meaning but lead up to Caesars' death in some strange way. If Caesar believed the strange things people were trying to tell him or if he noticed something that was not right maybe it could have saved him from being murdered by the conspirators.
