Surviving Impossibilities Survival is the act of surviving and doing what is required to lived; sociology has a theory called “Social Darwinism.” Social Darwinism could be broken down to one phrase, survival of the fittest. The notion survival of the fittest implies that those who are successful were meant to be successful and those who are not successful were meant to be in the situation they are in, the key is adapt and survive. Anthropomorphism means “the attributing of human characteristics and purposes to inanimate objects, animals, plants, or other natural phenomena, or to God.” (www.dictionary.com) In easy words we can describe the term as giving human qualities to inhuman things or ‘personifying’ someone or something. As a general example we can say that: “The old banyan tree looked sadly at the river in front of it.” Here, the word “looked sadly” depicts the banyan tree with a sense – that it ‘looked’ and an emotion – ‘sadly’, although trees do not have these ‘human’ qualities within themselves.
Charles Darwin introduced the world to the theory of Natural Selection, also known as “Survival of the Fittest”, in 1856. The theory claims that organisms with the drive to fight for their lives are more likely to survive compared to other organisms who do not put up a fight. Jack London's Call of the Wild depicts Buck undergoing and overcoming a series of brutal challenges in the harsh wilderness of Canada during the Klondike Gold Rush, ultimately allowing for him to become a representation of Darwin's concept of the “survival of the fittest”. London employs a harsh tone that stresses the violence experienced by the dogs throughout the novel, emphasizing the dog's struggle to stay alive. In addition to this, London presents an analogy of Buck's previous life with Judge Miller and his life as a sled-dog, showcasing Buck's complete change.
The Call of the Wild by Jack London tells the story of a dog named Buck who was raised as a domesticated animal joining a sled-dog pack and tuning in with his natural instincts. These characters risked something and succeeded in their mission. While that is
Throughout his journey, Buck benefits greatly from his physical structure, genetic memory, and natural instincts. Natural selection played a big role in Buck’s fate. As demonstrated by the author, when describing Buck’s demeanor, “He alone endured and prospered, matching the husky in strength , savagery and cunning,” (28). The theory of natural selection says that all who are prosperous will thrive. Many generations have passed before him, so Buck inherits only the genes and traits beneficial to him.

From that it can be concluded, once a wild animal, always a wild animal regardless of the situation because instincts stick. The text also states “A wild animal is never 100 percent predictable” (Lewis). Therefore, the nature of a wild animal and even the actions of a wild animal is never really known. Survival Essay Survival is the state or fact of continuing to live or exist especially in spite of difficult conditions. To me, survival comes naturally; furthermore, I feel as if it is you fighting for your life in difficult circumstances.
