In of mice and men Steinback display the idea that Curley’s Wife is deserving of sympathy. I mostly disagree that Culey’s Wife is deserving of sympathy. The points I will discuss are her regrets about her decisions, how she acts around others, how she speaks to Crooks, the danger she causes, how she is manipulative and how she is insecure. Curley’s Wife regrets about her life may make someone feel sympathy for Curley’s Wife and how she is isolated due to her decisions. This is stated here: “–Sat’iday night. Ever’body out doin’ som’pin.’ Ever’body! An’ what am I doin’? Standin’ here talkin’ to a bunch of bindle stiffs–” The colloquial language shows how Curley's Wife feels. This is shown here: she wore “red mules” “red ostrich feathers” her “fingernails were red” Steinback uses the colour red to symbolise Curley's Wife as a dangerous and sexual character. This may worry the reader as we feel she may cause trouble for George and Lennie. This Is used in the attempt to foreshadow the danger of her presence and how she may attempt to cause complications for George and Lennie. Steinback may persuade the reader to not feel sympathetic for Curley’s Wife due to her being manipulative. This is shown here: “how’d you like not to talk to anybody?” this shows she is controlling/influencing someone cleverly and trying to get him to agree with her by asking him a question he can’t answer and influencing him to agree with her point of view. She is trying to seem more relatable to Lennie and making him feel bad for her. As he fears being alone. Curley's Wife may be deserving of sympathy as she can be seen as insecure. This is stated here: “what kinda harm am I doin’ to you?
