In the Great Gatsby, Gatsby seemed to be living in the past. Five years ago Jay Gatsby lived as James Gatz. Time is an important message in the great Gatsby. Jay Gatsby wants to go to the back to past in Louisville with Daisy. In order to emphasize Gatsby needs to live in this past where he was happy, Fitzgerald uses lie and opposing views of Nick. At the end of chapter 4, Gatsby was a mysterious man was unraveling. He threw huge parties that not only drew attention to not only the “new money” Nick but also Daisy from the “old money” part of New York. Gatsby threw these extravagant parties every weekend hoping to see Daisy, but what Gatsby didn’t get was that daisy think the people on the west was uncivilized. This was very signatance to Gatsby because along with Gatsby Nick had hope. Nick father teaching taught him to have hope in people. Sharing hope in Gatsby he had reassurance “Gatsby turns out to be alright at the end,” Fitzgerald uses this in the beginning to give hope.
