Audiences experience timeless theme in many different kinds of literature, no matter how modern or old they are. A timeless theme can also bring out the good and bad side of humans and timeless themes will appear constantly throughout human history. The timeless theme love of money or greed of money has been explored various times throughout the history, from the play “A Christmas Carol” written by Charles Dickens in 1843, to the film “A Diva’s Christmas Carol” directed by Richard Schenkman in 2000. It is relevant even in today’s world of materialism. Humanity’s desire for money doesn’t affect by time, and it is still relevant in today’s society when looking at the issue of the love of money.

Greed for money is one of the timeless themes demonstrated in the play “A Christmas Carol” through the selfish acts of the lead character Ebenezer Scrooge. Throughout the play, the timeless greed was shown in “A Christmas Carol” was the way Scrooge treated his employee Bob Cratchit, his maid Mrs. Dilber, and his friend Jacob Marley. Bob Cratchit was going through long hours of overworking, and he was severely underpaid. Also, he wasn’t allowed to get Christmas day off to spend with his wife and his dying son.
