Dead Poets Society Transcendentalism is about life in which nature and the soul connect. In the movie Dead Poet Society, one of the characters who shows transcendentalism in Neil Perry. In the movie the students quoted poems and had their alone time with nature. They also relied on themselves and sought the spiritual side of things.
Saint Kathy Kathy Dobie believed that being the saint to others will confirm her path to inclusion. In the catholic faith, being a saint and spreading kindness is powerful. To achieve sainthood there must be acts of selflessness. Kathy Dobie expressed selflessness by finding her path of inclusion. She used acts of courage to meet this desire.
Transcendentalism is the idea of striving to live a life of independence, simplicity, and coherence with nature. An element of transcendentalism is having the euphoria of one life over society. A modern example of a song that supports transcendentalism is “Try” by Colbie Caillat. Transcendentalism is when someone does not meet society’s expectations and they are their own individuals. This song relates to transcendentalism because the singer, Colbie Caillat is singing about how women do not have to change so much to meet society standards of beauty.

Transcendentalism is something that stands people out from one another, all the traits can make someone their own unique person. Personally I think that people are transcendentalist and that people use the traits everyday of their lives but they don 't even realize it.

The action of telling his students to call him "O Captain, My Captain" is a self reliant move that clearly expressed in poems made by Walt Whitman. However, I believe that I am not a Transcendentalist, but simply an adventurer.

One character who started out non-Transcendental but by the end of the movie, demonstrated Transcendental qualities was a student at Welton, Todd Anderson. Todd Anderson at the beginning of the movie, was a quiet new kid that really didn’t express his mind, but by the end of the movie Todd Anderson acquired many Transcendental qualities, like valuing feeling over reason. It is clear by the end of the movie, Todd has become a true Transcendental character. Todd Anderson went from being non Transcendental to being Transcendental throughout the movie.

A subject of Into the Wild is individual vs society because Chris McCandless tends to desire to chase freedom and be alone rather than with people. In the last letter ever received from Everett Ruess, to his brother Waldo on November 11th, 1934. He explains that he wants to live in isolation.
When I was little my mother would try to feed me baby food; I would refuse it. After weeks of my father and mother trying to force me to eat baby food, My mother started to feed me Spaghetti O’s and softer foods so I would eat. This showed non-conformity because I rebelled against baby food. Another way non-conformity and other transcendentalism traits are shown in the movie the Dead Poets’ Society. It is about a couple of boys who go to Welton Academy and they meet a different kind of teacher named Mr. Keating.

I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life.” This meant that you live how you want to live and do whatever you want to be free from conformity in your life. This quote by Henry David Thoreau is what the Dead Poets Society and its members lived by everyday. The transcendentalist members always acted differently and disobeyed many so that they could follow in the footsteps of the original Dead Poets Society.

The song, “ Don’t Want to Be”, by Gavin Degraw, exemplifies the transcendental theme of nonconformity. Gavin Degraw's lyrics, “I don’t want to be anything other than me”, illustrates the transcendental theme by showing that you should stay true to who you are(citation). Another example of transcendental thoughts is the movie, Pocahontas.
In the article Thirty-Eight Who Saw Murder Didn 't Call Police, author Martin Gansberg recalls the events that occurred on the night of March 13, 1964. "38 respectful, law abiding citizens" (120) stood idle as Kitty Genovese was hunted down on three separate occasions and murdered. Not once was an attempt made to alert authorities, an action that may have resulted in Kitty 's life being spared. When questioned, the spectators had a multitude of excuses for why they had not notified authorities, some of which included, "I didn 't want to get involved," (122) and even, "I was tired" (123). This article demonstrates the violence of this time period and the unwillingness of humans to assist those in need.
Transcendentalism, a philosophical and social movement, demonstrated how divinity spreads through all nature and humanity. One of the main ideals of transcendentalism, living simply and independently, define as the principle. In matters of financial and interpersonal relations, independence projects as more valuable than neediness.
