Explain How The Constitution Protects Against Tyranny

Tyranny happens in many other countries but not so much in America and thats because of the constitution and how it guards against tyranny. The four ways of the constitution protects against tyranny are federalism separation of powers checks and balances and finally small and large state compromise. The first way the constitution guards against tyranny is federalism, federalism guards against tyranny because it spreads out the power of the government. The constitution gives power to the central government and the states. But they each have their own things they can do that the others can’t. The central government can declare war but a state government cannot. But they also share things they both can do such as make laws and enforce them. This gives the government a better connection with the people. Another way the constitution goes against tyranny is the separation of power within the government. “Liberty requires that the three great departments of government be separate and distinct” that means the three branches of government should be separated. The three branches are legislative, executive, and judicial. The executive branch is the President and the Vice President. Which means not one branch of government cannot have more power than another. “The constant aim is to divide and arrange several offices in such manner as that they may be a check on the other”. The quote is saying the constitution main aim is to keep the power separated within the branches but also so the can keep each other on check. The legislative branch can override a presidential veto. The executive branch can select judges. The judicial can declare laws unconstitutional. But each one can stop the other one from having too much power. So this gives the meaning checks and balances because the branches can check each other and keep the power
