Trust. According to the General Social Survey, trust in the United States for other people has fallen from its height of 48% in 1984 to a measly 30% in 2014. Nevertheless, renowned author Ernest Hemingway has a piece of advice pertaining towards trust. “The best way to find out if you can trust someone is to trust them.” Many individuals find trust to be a tender subject.
When reading and listening to lectures I was struck by the information presented in part two of the Jossey-Bass Reader on Educational Leadership: Moral Leadership. I believe this stemmed from three key ideas: trust, relationships, and business. To begin, I was extremely interested in the emphasis on trust and how trust is the glue that holds together a school. When reading I found myself nodding along at how important trust is to an organization especially a school that functions mostly on communication.
Trustworthiness involves being reliable, honest, and transparent. Practitioners and organizations need to establish trust by creating clear expectations and following through with commitments. Trustworthiness is essential in creating a safe, supportive environment for individuals to heal. The third concept of the framework is choice.

Trust yields a sense of safety within a group, when members are safe they become comfortable with each other thus opening up and baring the part of themselves that they would not have done when there was no trust. Trust is a complex concept, as it can be characterized as feeling a strong sense of loyalty and reliability or the action of being able to disclose secrets and personal information to a dependable individual. Trust is a necessity in human nature, as it is fundamental for the foundations of relationships with family and friends among us. Trust is remarkably diverse. In fact, the most ordinary human interactions would be nearly impossible without trust in some degree. The element of trust is also something that can be gained and lost.
The fourth thing is to have good leadership skills. You want to support everyone in your team and make sure that everyone is making good decisions to better the company. The fifth is to have unbiased opinions, which is important that everyone be treated equally. You do not want people to feel that some people have the upper hand. The sixth is having a target oriented, which means to make sure that you are targeting certain sales and services.
1. My philosophy of leadership is about collaboration and teamwork. Respecting and treating everyone the same, is key to supporting a good team atmosphere. I believe when a leader puts effort and care into assisting others, then their peers and followers will naturally want to support them. It is also important for a leader to recognize, that advocacy must never become so important that the critical elements of leadership are neglected (e.g. policy enforcement, command support, etc...).
Likewise, give credit to where credit is due. The last thing I’d like to address is being approachable. If we can listen to each other and support each other, we can accomplish so much more. Treat others with dignity and respect and remember that we are one team.
Leaders need to be very caring and show a genuine passion to work with others. Being passionate about the employees drives a leader to learn more about their greatest attributes and their greatest weaknesses. By learning these about each employee shows that not only does the leader what himself to succeed, but wants his employees to succeed as well. Furthermore, a leader needs to be sincerely caring on learning about its employees; it is not something that they should or can fabricate. If the employees feel that the leader does not care and they are only pretending to, then the employees will not respect the leader.
