QUESTION: What are the costs of deforestation of tropical rainforests? RAINFORESTS The rainforest regions of our planet have been researched and documented to indicate they have the most complex ecosystems of all the forest types. Rainforests cover 6% of the Earth’s surface yet they include half the plant and animal species on the planet. 1 Rainforests are located in areas such as Central America, The Amazon, Africa, Southern Asia, and Australasia. To survive, Rainforests need a precipitation level of at least 200cm, 2 a tropical climate, and complete wet seasons throughout the year. Structured rainforests must develop a canopy in order to evolve, should have high levels of biodiversity as wells as symbiosis relationships between species …show more content…

ECOSYSTEMS “An ecosystem includes all of the living things (plants, animals and organisms) in a given area, interacting with each other, and also with their non-living environments (weather, earth, sun, soil, climate, atmosphere).” …show more content…

In areas such as the canopy, there are branches and leaves of tall trees, which creates shade to the ground below, preventing smaller plants from growing. When a tree loses a branch on the emergent layer, sunlight the largest system falls onto the normally dark forest, this tree branch may even contain seeds or fruit. The warm, wet air causes the tree branch to begin rotting. Insects feed on the decomposing branch and leaves, attracting birds and other animals. These animals may even consume the seeds and deposit them on the ground where they germinate in the warm, humid air. The hole in the emergent layer, caused by the fallen branch, provides light for the seedlings and rainfall can happen making it to grow. The plants can be used as food source by animals, or humans, also depending on the specie they can eat meat surrounding the area of interest, making all different types of food sources interested of consumption. Shade from the canopy helps the moisture, which can also provide a better place for plants to grow and any leftover decaying plants with nourish the soil which will then in return provides nutrients for flora. Rainforests are known to have the oldest living ecosystems on the Earth1. This shows how successful the ecosystem is in order for survival of
