The Social Structure of the Sioux by Ryan Csuha
The social structure of the Sioux was very unique. At one time, the Sioux all spoke one singular language but then divided into Lakota for the west, Nakota for the center, and Dakota for the east. Like the Sioux split languages, when they began migrating to the Great Plains, they divided their tribes and clans into several groups. When these groups combined, they formed the Seven Council Fires. In the language of the Sioux, this meant Oceti Sakowin (Social Structure1).
