Those projects are mainly focused on improving the infrastructure and the economy of those developing countries in order to enhance the development process. Unfortunately there has been some kind of criticism that arouse in regards to those projects. This essay will focus on the Chixoy Dam in Guatemala, that particular project sponsored by the World Bank brought forward a great deal of controversy. I will elaborate on what the Chixoy Dam was about, what drawbacks resulted from the projects that created havoc and also how those drawbacks could have been avoided. Such a horrific situation could have been avoided I believe. Since the World Bank was sponsoring a project for the betterment of the population of Guatemala, it is their duty to gather as much information about the site in question and how to handle the situation in a more humane way. The population of Rio Negro was going to be relocated at Pacux, an arid and poor community (Russelle G., 2014, September 2). The deal should have been fairer to the Maya Achi people. Furthermore knowing the fact that the country of Guatemala under the leadership of a genocide supporter, this project should have been delayed until a better leader would have been in position. The World Bank should have intervened in such a brutality toward the people of Rio Negro but somehow turn their back to them.
