On the first day of the Vietnam New Year (Tet), communist forces launched an attack on American strongholds throughout the South. American forces dislodged the Viet Cong from most of the positions they seized and the Tet offensive, In the end, cost the communists such causalities that they were weakened for months to come. Within weeks of the Tet offensive, public opposition to the war had almost doubled and Johnson’s popularity was decreasing, lowest of any president since Truman. Moreover, Robert Kennedy quickly established himself as the champion of the Democratic primaries.
These can also result to various forms of violence toward the LGBTQ individual from verbal and physical violence to neglect.
Society has limits and ideals, and if you don’t agree or try to test them society will find a way to limit them. For example, in Clint Smith’s “The Danger of Silence”, he talks about someone he knew who was gay. “When Christian was beat up for being gay, I put my hand in my pocket and walked with my head down as if I didn’t even notice.” (Smith). Being gay is not an ideal in society, so people judge gay people and beat them up.
Well, people who identify as LGBTQ+ have no boundaries when it comes to race. Which makes microaggressions more susceptible to those in the community. By applying the same concepts, you’ll begin to notice that these benign comments can have a bite like effect to them, much like a mosquito. As a member of the LGTBQ+ community, some of the most common microaggressions are those as follow: “what a waste, you’re too pretty to be a lesbian” “have you ever had sex with a guy to make sure”, “I like gay guys that aren’t too gay”, or “you could barely even tell she was trans, she looks
This is not acceptable. Any and all forms of discrimination need to be stopped now. No one deserves to be hated because of who they love. Basic human rights are being denied because of people’s sexual orientations and this should not have been happening in the first place, let alone now.
The LGBTQ+ community just want to love who they choose as well as be the individual they aspire to be. Loving who they choose does not involve bothering or harming complete random strangers; however this minority is discriminated against on the basis of personal religion or beliefs and some just think that LGBTQ+ are just mentally-ill. Furthermore this can connect to Tom Robinson as well as Arthur Radley on how they were discriminated against, Tom through racism and personal beliefs and Arthur through misconception. Mockingbirds don’t go out of their way to harm others, they just sing their hearts out. The LGBTQ+ just want to be who they are and love who they want to love which is why the community are
Straight people have some stereotypes about the LGBTQ+ community that they must stop believing. I chose 4 stereotypes that I'm going to explain: 1. IT'S JUST A PHASE A lot of people said that it's a phase, it will pass and he's just finding himself, but not. It can't change.
Over 90% of students who identify themselves as LGBTQ hear discriminating comments on a daily basis at school. People who are from this community have a bigger probability of being victims of hate crimes than any other minority group. This violence is made up of hatred and aggression towards the queer community. Despite personal opinions, everyone deserves to feel safe.
Frederick Douglas once stated “No man can put a chain about the ankle of his fellow man without at last finding the other end fastened about his own neck” (“Frederick Douglass Quotes”) Douglass was not just referring to his own personal experience; instead, he knew that one day a people other than his own would be oppressed by a majority. That trend is still true to this day in the form of Heterosexism. Heterosexism is the act of discrimination against homosexual people based on the assumption that being heterosexual is the normal sexual orientation, and therefore superior. Even so, it is absolutely unacceptable and against basic human decency to hate or discriminate against a fellow citizen for who they love.
Both right-wing Catholics and Christians have deemed the LGBTQ community as dangerous and deviant to society. Judith Butler explains the religious use of anti-gender ideology, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, and sexism in their justification of oppressing queer and trans people. Religion has been placed against the LGBTQ community in constraining their bodies, legal and social rights, and overall freedom to exist. Since religion plays a large role in societal and cultural norms and values, Latinxs perceive Catholicism as part of their cultural identity despite its rejection of the LGBTQ community. As a queer Mexican American, I often battled with accepting my sexuality while maintaining a relationship with God.
In 1920, women gained equal rights after a lot of protesting; 95 years later, same-sex marriage became legal in a fairly similar manner. Just like women, gays still do not have the same equality as the rest of society. After 95 years some women still receive less of a pay then men with the same position or title , and women still are belittled with derogatory sayings quotes and comments such as “women can’t drive.” Although the fight for equal women’s right will still live on until everything is equal, the comments will most likely will never stop. Gays as well are not fully accepted.
African Americans have had a long history of oppression. They were forced to be slaved and kept under the white man’s control. They were segregated so that Blacks and Whites do not mix. Today, police brutality on the African American community led to the “Black Lives Matter” movement. The LGBTQ community has also been oppressed.
Most of the time people bash transgender people because they feel as if they are breaking the rules. People on the outside judge them because they chose to be
People are different. People all around the world are different. Why do we as different people categorize others based on their skin color or their gender identity. We should all understand what it means to be different. We all have our rights so the LGBTQ community should also have their rights.
People think gays are like aliens, but it isn’t true. LGBT is a group of people that stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender. It’s been scientifically proven that being gay is natural. But why some people can’t accept the way they are? Many gay people have to go through hell in their families and even in their schools.
