Clinton bounced back dramatically from the scandal and continued his successful career; and In 1992 Clinton won the presidential election over Bush. Also, Clinton faced several foreign affair issues during his presidency, primarily in the African countries of Rwanda and Somalia. These affairs were similar to Nixon's issues in that the American public scrutinized the issues and Americas reason for involvement. Clinton’s highly successful career, however, would come crashing down similar to Nixon's Watergate
This view can be summed up in the election data, particularly the turnout. The general election of 1992 had a turnout of 77.7%, the highest since 1974. The electorate voted for John Major instead of the party as a whole because they bought into his leadership style. Major successfully managed to disassociate himself from the thatcher years. A culmination of many issues led to the 1997 electoral defeat of the conservatives.
Bush expounds with the character by caring and compassionate. He demonstrates that as being president that he had the willing to come out and face the tragedy after the occasion occurred He extends his credibility after speaking up for the people and telling terrorist they were not going to overcome us as the quote says, “But they have failed. Our country is strong.” I implemented our government’s emergency response plans...and to take every precaution to protect our citizens at home and around the world for further attacks.” Bush optimized the character credibility working with everyone and to let them know who he really was.
Benjamin Harrison became president in 1888 after favoring the Tariff policy which was the election's principal issue. “Harrison swept the majority of the North and Midwest by a margin of 1% or lower to achieve the majority of the electoral votes” (Kelly). Cleveland lacked a strong campaign and his different policies on currency and tariff reform created many enemies among farmers and industrialists. In 2000 George W. Bush won the election over Al Gore.
Bill Clinton was also an American politician who had served as the 42nd President of the United States. He had served his time from 1993 to 2001 and throughout his time in office, he had both aided yet negatively impacted the United States, which can be seen through many acts and bills he had signed, both domestic and foreign. Domestic accomplishments of President Clinton firstly included cutting the tax, similar to what Reagan had done. Clinton had signed the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act, cutting taxes for millions of low-income families. He had also cut tax for almost 100% of small businesses and raised the tax on the wealthiest taxpayers.
In the 1860’s South Carolina decided to secede from the union. This caused an uprising of many other states that decided the United States was not working out for them and many others decided to secede too. President Lincoln felt that this violated the Constitution and felt that it was not the states choice whether or not they were part of the union. On the contrary, the states felt that if they joined the union they should be able to leave it, no questions asked.
Aleia Osborne The election of 1996 caused a political upheaval because the winning candidate, Bill Clinton, didn’t have 50% of the vote for the second election in a row. Another election that caused an upheaval was the election of 2000 when Al Gore, who won the popular vote, was defeated by George W. Bush. Bush won the election by his victory in the Electoral College. One of the reasons Obama won the presidency was because he assured the people that he was the change from Clinton that the people wanted to see.
The Republican party was on the rise. Harding and Coolidge both were Pro business, wanted to lower taxes, have high tariffs and more. They appealed to so many people because they showed they were going for change after the war. Being pro-business gained Harding many more votes because of the way our country was going. The United States was beginning to look like a business country meaning that many people owned businesses or were a part of large corporations for their job.
Kennedy. He changed a lot of problems in America. During Clinton's presidency, 22.5 million new jobs were created and unemployment dropped from 7.5% from when he took office to 4.0% by the end of his second term, it was the lowest in 30 years. He also declined crime rates and budget surplus. Since 1992, reading and math scores have increased for 4th, 8th, and 12th graders, Math SAT scores are at a 30year high, the number of charter schools has grown from 1 to more than 2,000, fortynine states have put in place standards in core subjects and federal investment in education and training has doubled.
When there is a crisis on American soil, there tends to be a “rally effect” that occurs where citizens of the country rally around the symbol and representation of America at that time—our president. He is the one person that is supposed to represent us all, and we feel a sense of patriotism and a need to support our country in the face of a common enemy. The effect is even stronger when we are attacked by a foreign enemy or have an international threat, such as when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, or 9/11. Bush’s approval rating in 2001 skyrocketed after the terrorist attacks, especially when he was shown on TV helping civilians and thanking public service men for doing their job. This made the American people feel warmly towards him, no matter what party they were, because at that moment the whole country had a shared enemy, which happens very rarely.
Bush explained how our country will still stand. The may have hurt us but we still have our foundation. I personally have understood so much more about our country. We all may have different points of views. Different religions.
