Why did the Democrats win the presidency in 1992? Even though President Bush had a very high approval rating after the Gulf War in 1991 and the fact that he had won the Cold War he lost the Presidency to Bill Clinton a Democrat in 1992. President Bush’s economy has started to slip in to a recession shortly after the war. Bill Clinton was able to combine social liberalism such as supporting “abortion rights, gay rights and affirmative Action”, with elements of conservatism, pledging to reduce government bureaucracy and “promising to end welfare as we know it”. Clinton was a good speaker and seemed concerned with the economic issues of the voters. President Bush on the other hand seemed to be out of touch with the ordinary people, that was the
