In the knothole, some treasures that the children find include a knife, a watch, and a ball of grey twine. Scout believes that the person who are leaving these items around is Mr. Avery.
The next day, the children sees that the knothole is now filled with cement. Mr. Nathan Radley most likely said this to the kids to keep them away from his yard.
The night of the fire, Scout was covered by a blanket by Boo Radley. Jem is said to be the one who saw Boo put a blanket over her. Atticus feels as if he needs to defend Tom Robinson because Atticus wants Tom to have a fair trial. He wants Tom to have a fair trial because that is simply what Atticus believes in. When Atticus says, “Just because we were licked a hundred years before we started is no reason for us to not try to win”, I believe what he was trying to say is that even though people are so prejudice against one another, it is not a reason to give up on a trial defending someone of color.
