Why I want to be a member of Alpha Phi Alpha I want to become a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporation for many reasons. One of the main reasons I would like to be a member, is for the fact that I would like to belong to a brotherhood. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the definitions of a brotherhood is the feelings of friendship, support, and understanding between people and a group or organization of people who have the same interests. If I were to become an Alpha Phi Alpha member, than I would rapturously embrace the feelings of support, friendship, and understanding. I understand that not all brotherhoods are especially positive and have approbatory aims. For instance being part of a gang may mean you have a support system and are part of a brotherhood, but it does not mean you are bettering yourself. One other main reason why I have a desire to become a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity is because I want to have positive impact on the community around me, whether it be Temple University’s community or the general Philadelphia area. It would bring me great joy to be a part of an Alpha Phi Alpha project that would include reaching out to the youth of Philadelphia. To me it is absolutely vital to reach out to young African Americans because young people are very impressionable. I feel that the brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Incorporated genuinely care about bettering themselves and the community around them. I also feel that the members of Alpha Phi Alpha Incorporated take special care to hold themselves to a higher standard. When I see members of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity on campus, they are always walking with their heads held high, attentive and ready. They are the people that you want to look up to in society. For example when Alpha Phi Alpha members do things such as, help paint a school or help out at a soup kitchen, they are being good roles models to the community. I want to be someone that other people look up to. I think that it is imperative that we as young African Americans set a good example for the younger black children growing up today. When they see us doing positive things around them, they will also want to do positive things. If I were to be accepted as a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity; I am determined to rise and accept the challenge and pleasure of holding myself to the esteemed Alpha Phi Alpha standard with great pride and
